Born in 1934 in Jiaozuo, Henan Province, China. Jin Shangyi studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and received his BFA in 1953. He is the former principle of Central Academy of Fine Arts, and former Chairman of China Artists Association. Major exhibitions of the artist include Jing Shangyi: A Retrospective, The National Art Museum of China, Beijing (2005); The Official Opening of Minsheng Art Museum - Thirty Years of Chinese Contemporary Art 1979-2009, Minsheng Art Museum, Shanghai, China (2010) Jin Shangyi Compliments to Vermeer, CAFA Art Museum, Beijing, China(2011); Portrait of The Times - 30 Years of Chinese Contemporary Art, Shanghai Contemporary Art Museum, Shanghai (2013). Jin's art works are also included in public collections such as The National Art Museum of China, Beijing.
